William Orbit, not Nostalgia, Found by Shazam App!

I love Sirius Radio, but they do have a song or two wrong on the display. One that was frustrating to me was a song that is listed on the display as "Occulta Fama" by Nostalgia. I've downloaded that song because it is OK, but that isn't the song that Sirius is playing.

I've searched the internet trying to find what the real song is to no avail. Recently I got a Blackberry though. I saw that the Shazam application was available (at a cost, not free like on the iPhone) and so I snapped it up. I finally got a chance to give it a test on the mystery song. I am driving home from Birmingham in the middle of the night. The mystery song starts to play.

I start Shazam.

First try... "try again". Oh man.
Second try... "try again". Noooo.
Third try... SHAZAM!

"Story of Light"
William Orbit from Cafe Del Mar Volume 1.

The original album is Strange Cargo 3. The Cafe Del Mar series is a compilation of songs from various artist. I have downloaded songs from many of these sets, including Volume 1. It was funny that it was pretty close the whole time. I post this here simply to see if it can get picked up on search engines. I did find a message wondering what this song was on a message board somewhere at some point. Hopefully I can help someone find this song in the future.

Shazam really is awesome. If you get no return at first, keep trying. The third time was the charm on this song. I finally have the right song in my iPod.

Thanks for pointing this out, and saving me $ 1.29. I almost had the same problem -- I heard the song on XM Chill, saw the Nostalgia listing then went to download it, but the sample didn't match what I had heard. So I searched for more samples of the Nostalgia song, and just found your blog post about it. Did you email XM or Sirius with the correction? Maybe they would change the listing.

Nope. Check the date of this comment and you'll see that Sirius XM hasn't changed a thing. I just did a search on "Occulta Fama" because I heard what I knew was William Orbit come on with the wrong title! Just the opposite problem from the original post, LOL.

Being a long time William Orbit fan, and actually owning the Strange Cargo 3 CD, I have seen this familiar track come by a couple of times with the Nostalgia / Occulta Fama name and wondered if WO had some pseudonym, but a quick google found your article confirming my suspicion! (And go figure from a familiar Geocaching name to boot! :)

Thank you so much for this, I was at a dead end too, heard this song a few days ago. Still hasn't been fixed as of 1/20/2011!

Ha, I've seen other mislabeled songs and wondered if there was some kind of piracy going on. There's an Andreas Vollenweider that is mis-labeled as well. Still...

Actually, the Vollenweider song is a remix by someone. Frankly, it sucks. The song they remixed is "Steam Forest" from the "Down To The Moon" disc/album. The Vollenweider original has what I would call a theme and good flow with some depth toward the end of the song, while this remix they play on the chill channel is a chopped up reitteration of just the main part of the song.

Chill has added a correctly labeled version of the song but still plays the incorrectly labeled version too.

...they have correctly identified the William Orbit song, that is.
